    Today, the most striking reminder of this lost power is the Tavole Palatine<\/strong>, the ruins of a 6th-century BC Doric temple dedicated to Hera.<\/sup> Standing solitary in the coastal plain, its fifteen remaining columns serve as a silent monument to a city that once harmonized the labor of the earth with the highest reaches of Greek philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
