He managed to scramble onto the <strong>Gyrae rocks<\/strong> (near Mykonos).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>The Hubris:<\/strong> Safely out of the water, Ajax boasted loudly that he had escaped death against the will of the gods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. <strong>The Execution:<\/strong> Enraged by this final act of pride, Poseidon struck the rock with his trident. The cliff split, and Ajax was cast back into the sea, where he finally drowned.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Historical and Cultural Context<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Ajax the Great was worshipped as a noble hero, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinstampdb.com\/index.php\/tag\/ajax-the-lesser\/\" class=\"st_tag internal_tag \" rel=\"tag\" title=\"Posts tagged with Ajax the Lesser\">Ajax the Lesser<\/a> served as a <strong>cautionary tale<\/strong> about the dangers of hubris (excessive pride) and asebeia (impiety).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the people of Locris continued to honor him as their national hero.
